Funeral for latest Windsor shooting victim announced

A 24-year-old man whose life was cut short in a shooting in Windsor last week will be laid to rest on Monday, December 12.

Daniel Squalls died in the hospital after suffering multiple gunshot wounds on the evening of November 28 on Hanna Street East near Parent Avenue.

Since then, Windsor Police initiated a manhunt for the suspect, 26-year-old Malique Calloo.

Visitation for Squalls is from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, at Families First on Dougall Avenue. A second visitation is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The funeral service starts at 10 a.m. the following day. His body will be interred at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens following the service.

"Daniel had dreams so big they seemed untouchable, yet he always seemed to reach them and refused to settle for less than what he envisioned for him and his family," read the obituary on the Family First website. "He was goofy and seemed to have jokes for days, always wanting to keep the mood light. Daniel's heart was his biggest and best asset. He loved hard and fought even harder for those he held close."

Squalls is survived by his girlfriend, with whom he was raising two young children.

A GoFundMe campaign set up to help pay for funeral costs has raised $13,350 so far.
