Campus police at University of Windsor ratify deal

Campus police officers at the University of Windsor have ratified a new three-year collective agreement.

The vote was 90 per cent in favour on Tuesday.

The deal was reached a week ago with the administration at the University of Windsor.

It awards campus police officers a two per cent increase in the first year of the agreement, three per cent in the second and three per cent in the third year.

"Pension improvements are always the most challenging issue to bargain," said Unifor Local 444 President Dave Cassidy on the union local's social media. "I'm happy to say that we were able to break ground on pensions, not only with improvements but, most importantly, we've laid a foundation that will lead to future pension improvements."

The union said it also made improvements around working conditions, job postings, and vacations.

Campus police have the authority to investigate crime on campus, arrest suspects, and present evidence in court.
