Essex County gets its own drive-thru food bank hub

There's two in Windsor, and now county residents in need can pick up food hampers at their own drive-thru food bank hub in Puce.

The Community Support Centre of Essex County and its Food Pantry opened it at 962 Old Tecumseh Rd. in Puce, not far from the roundabout at County Road 22.

The agency has had a surge in demand because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Like the food bank hubs in the city, county residents can pull into the parking lot, and a volunteer will load a food hamper into the trunk of their vehicle.

"We are meeting the challenge of increased demand on our food pantry while ensuring that our volunteers and those needing food remain safe and healthy," said Community Support Centre CEO Tracey Bailey.

The food bank hub will operate every Monday and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Two weeks ago, the Unemployed Help Centre opened its second drive-thru food bank hub at St. Michael's Adult Secondary School on Detroit Street in Windsor. The first one opened at the centre on Cantelon Drive in the city's east end at the end of March.
