Second drive-thru food bank hub opens in Windsor's west end

The Unemployed Health Centre is opening a second drive-thru food bank hub at St. Michael's Adult Secondary School in Windsor Thursday.

It opened one on Cantelon Drive in the east end of the city at the end of March, and since then, has provided 1,247 households with groceries during the pandemic.

The centre expects its hub in the west end to be even busier because of the higher number of children living in poverty.

It opens at 11 a.m. at 477 Detroit St.

Residents can drive to the hub's location and stay in their vehicle while volunteers load a food hamper into the truck. Those who walk up can get their hamper from a conveyer belt set up to maintain social distancing.

The Windsor Family Homes and Community Partnerships, and Kids First Food Bank will oversee operations, and it'll be open every Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
