Windsor-Essex has 227 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit confirmed a sixth person has died due to the COVID-19 virus.

The patient was a woman in her 70s. The health unit is not reporting any more information about the woman out of respect for her family's privacy.

Tuesday morning, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit announced 23 new cases since Monday, for a total of 227.

Of those, 18 patients are being cared for in the hospital, three of whom are in the intensive care unit.

The health unit reported two deaths Monday night, a man in his 80s and a woman in her 70s.

There are outbreaks at seven long-term care homes across the region.  Health officials declare an outbreak at a long-term care home as soon as one staff member or resident tests positive for the virus.  Actions are being taken to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 at those facilities.

During Tuesday morning's update to the media, Ahmed also reported 13 patients have recovered from the virus.
