Two more COVID-19-related deaths reported in Windsor-Essex

The death toll related to COVID-19 has increased to five in Windsor-Essex.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported on Monday that a woman in her 70s and a man in his 80s have passed away due to complications from COVID-19. No further details about the individuals are being released at this time.

“I send my regrets and condolences to the families of both of these individuals during this very difficult time. This is sad news for our community to lose two more residents in such a tragic way,” said Dr. Wajid Ahmed, medical officer of health, in a news release.

As well, the health unit said it has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Southwood Lakes nursing home in Windsor. There are now five long-term care homes in Windsor that are experiencing an outbreak; Southwood Lakes, Riverside Place, The Village at St. Clair, Lifetimes on Riverside, AMICA, and Heron Terrace Long Term Care Community. Another outbreak has also been declared at Country Village Homes in Woodslee.

As of Monday morning, a total of 204 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Windsor-Essex and the test results are pending for another 148 cases.
