St. Clair College antes up medical equipment for hospitals

A day after the City of Windsor, Essex County, and the union that represents healthcare workers in Chatham-Kent asked for donated medical equipment, St. Clair College is answering the call.

The college has equipment from its Health Sciences programs. Now that the campus is closed and students are completing their courses online, the college is not using it.

Since the plea went out, college officials have been taking stock of the gloves, gowns, masks, and hospital beds it has and will deliver the equipment to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Windsor Regional Hospital, and Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare.

The Toldo Centre for Applied Health Sciences has 90 hospital beds and will send 35 of them to area hospitals, more if they are needed.

"We are prepared, also, to provide the local hospital system with any further assistance which St. Clair College might be in a position to offer," said College President Patti France. "If St. Clair can help the community in this life-saving effort, it will respond immediately and whole-heartedly."

St. Clair College is just the latest to step up to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

Businesses, including Hiram Walker and Sons, are shifting production to make life-saving equipment, including hand-sanitizer.
