The City of Windsor and the County of Essex are making a joint appeal to all businesses in the region that may have medical equipment that could be crucial in the fight against COVID-19.
They are looking for:
- Respirators, Honeywell 5500 Series and NIOSG P100 filter cartridges
- Nitrile gloves
- Battery-operated infrared medical thermometers
- Disposable impermeable gowns
- General surgical masks
- Hand sanitizer and disinfectant
- Sanitizing wipes
- Safety goggles
There is also a drop-off site a the WFCU Centre between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. If you are dropping off equipment, visit the main desk at the Community Rinks entrance and staff will direct you after you have been screened.
"In the last few days, based on the best advice of public health officials, many local services have temporarily stopped operating," said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens.
The equipment will be used by hospital staff, staff in long-term care homes, police, firefighters, paramedics, and those working at the Southwest Detention Centre.
"No quantity is too small," added Essex County Warden Gary McNamara. "Our medical professionals are doing heroic work on the frontline of the crisis, under very challenging circumstances."
Some companies are already shifting production to help during the pandemic. Hiram Walker and Sons announced last week it would make hand sanitizer. The Auto Parts Manufacturers Association has also offered to retool parts plants to make ventilators.
