Huron Church Road to undergo more major work this spring

The City of Windsor will soon send out letters to some residents and businesses along a stretch of Huron Church Road, letting them know another stretch of the road will be torn up and replaced this spring.

Starting April 1, Huron Church will undergo a total reconstruction between Malden Road and Pool Avenue. The work will last until the end of July.

The work will go 24-hours a day, so city councillors will consider passing a noise exemption bylaw Monday night.

The city has received a $3 million under the Ministry of Transportation's Connecting Links Program, which helps fund projects on roads that connect provincial highways. Huron Church Road connects Highway 401 to the Ambassador Bridge.

The project includes a new concrete road, sidewalks, and medians, better drainage, and new street lights. Fibre optic cable will also be laid between Malden Road and Industrial Road.

Access to businesses along the stretch of road will remain open.

A report to city councillors said with 60,000 vehicles, including 10,000 trucks, travelling the road each day. The freeze-thaw cycle has also taken a toll on Huron Church Road.

Last year, the city tore up the stretch of Huron Church between Malden Road and Dorchester Road.
