Marina displays thank you to the Queen

A sign of appreciation, initially raised to thank essential pandemic workers locally, has been altered to thank Queen Elizabeth II for her lifetime of service.

The national flag of the United Kingdom, the Union Jack, has been added to each side of the very noticeable thank you sign at Sarnia’s Andrew S. Brandt Marina.

Operator Dave Brown tells Sarnia News Today the display, at Sarnia Bay, is already making an impact.

"Not only are we receiving compliments about it, but numerous people are stopping by and taking pictures with their family or friends," said Brown. "It's fantastic and that's precisely what I was trying to achieve."

Brown said the lights illuminating the sign will also change.

"They're going to be on tonight, red, white and blue. One more touch for the Queen as a tribute to her."

The large thank you sign was erected early in the pandemic.

The Queen died Thursday, September 8 at the age of 96.

Her state funeral will take place Monday, September 19 at Westminster Abbey in London.

A book of condolences was placed in the lobby of Sarnia City Hall for residents to sign this week .
