Final phase of shopping centre redevelopment underway

Site preparation is underway for a long-planned apartment complex at the southeast corner of the London Road Shopping Centre.

The six storey building, to be known as 'The Addison', is a mid-rise tower featuring 70 one and two bedroom units.

Vensuris Communities Founder and CEO Rob Dawson said shovels will be in the ground by the end of September.

"It's going to be an approximately a 13 to 14 month build," said Dawson. "We will be leasing in the first part of 2022 and we expect our first move-ins to be in November of 2022."

Dawson expects to attract a wide range of tenants, including retirees looking to downsize, young professionals and mature students.

"What we have been focusing on is just the low vacancy rates in the community and the need for housing and the need for multi-residential development of that scale," he said. "For us to be able to check that box and help the Sarnia-Lambton community was really important, while also being able to bring forward the third and final phase of redevelopment of that site."

Amenities include stainless steel appliances, in suite laundry, a personal balcony and access to a common room.

The complex is part of the $15 million redevelopment of the busy shopping centre, which was announced in the fall of 2016.

Original plans for the site included an 11 storey high-rise with 133 rental units.
