Speed humps and crossing proposed for Sandy Lane

A pedestrian crossing and speed humps are recommended to slow traffic on Sandy Lane.

Sarnia council will consider installing the traffic calming measures Monday.

Mayor Mike Bradley said traffic concerns in that area are an ongoing issue.

"There's been an intensification of the apartment units on Sandy Lane, high traffic obviously into Canatara because it's a very popular park, so the city's been working with the Village of Point Edward to look at some ways we could put more safety factors in there," said Bradley.

Bradley said the speed limit has already been reduced.

"We're looking at a type D pedestrian crossing at Sandy Lane and Alfred Street to protect the public, and we're looking at some speed humps on Sandy Lane that would slow traffic down to protect the residents of the area."

The pedestrian crossing would include road signs and lines marking the crossing area and where motorists and cyclists have to stop.

Sarnia police have also stepped up enforcement of the area after public complaints surrounding loud vehicles, dangerous driving, fighting and public drinking.
