Sarnia man's personal adversity motivating message for pandemic-weary students

A motivational speaker and mental health advocate is encouraging area students to focus on the positives in life.

Dan Edwards is giving virtual classroom presentations to elementary and high school students in the St. Clair Catholic District School Board.

Edwards, who suffered a spinal cord injury in 2006 that left him a quadriplegic, talks about the key tools that continuously help him face adversity in his life.

“Count the things that you have in your life each day, because you will find there will be countless things," said Edwards.

Board Director of Education Deb Crawford said it's an honour to have Dan share with students his own journey through his personal “pandemic” and how he continues to persevere.

“Dan is an inspiration. His personal journey demonstrates strength, courage and perseverance against tremendous challenges," said Crawford. "We are thankful that he willingly shares his story as an encouragement to others."

Dan, who is also an author, started the Do It For Sarnia campaign in support of mental health and addiction services at Bluewater Health. In 2019, the campaign reached its $150,000 goal.
