Do It For Sarnia campaign reaches goal

Dan Edwards' Do It For Sarnia campaign in support of mental health and addiction services at Bluewater Health has reached its $150,000 goal.

Last month's downtown block party featuring The Trews raised around $60,000 to put the four-year campaign over the top.

It was also helped by countless community donations and fundraisers.

Edwards said he's overwhelmed by all of the support and says the party will continue next year.

"I was blown away on day one when I met Kathy Alexander and the Bluewater Health Foundation and I was introduced to even more outpouring," said Edwards. "The first time around when I was on the receiving end of the money after my accident, it's remarkable. I remember the first meetings that we had, and now that we're here it's pretty cool.

"I believed that I could do it [reach the goal], I believed it would get done, but how it's transitioned and developed is not what I expected."

It's not known what the money will specifically go toward but Edwards is working closely with Bluewater Health on a plan.

Focus groups will be held and feedback sought from front line care providers, patients and their families.

There's a party planned for later this summer to celebrate the accomplishment, with details to be announced in the coming weeks.

Edwards launched Do It For Sarnia in response to the generosity he received from the community following an accident in 2006 that left him paralyzed.
