Lambton COVID cases up 32, new nursing home outbreak

COVID-19 cases in Sarnia-Lambton increased by 32 Monday and a new outbreak was declared at a nursing home.

Lambton Public Health reported the total number of confirmed cases is now at 673, up from 641. The death toll remains unchanged at 28 and there were 16 more recoveries for a total of 502. The active case count is at 143, an increase of 16.

There are now 12 outbreaks in the community. The health unit declared an outbreak Sunday at Sarnia's Vision Nursing Home where a resident tested positive for the virus. Manager of Health Protection Chad Ikert said "the individual who tested positive has been notified of their result. Lambton Public Health is continuing to conduct case and contact management as part of the investigation.”

Vision Nursing Home had an outbreak in the spring that lasted nearly two months. A total of 28 staff and 26 residents tested positive for the virus and 10 deaths were linked to the Wellington Street facility.

Since Thursday Lambton Public Health has declared three outbreaks at workplaces and one at Great Lakes Secondary School.

On its website Monday Bluewater Health reported that there are still three patients in hospital with the virus while the number of patient deaths remains at 19.
