TSL gift card program has taken off since launch

Tourism Sarnia-Lambton (TSL) says its gift card program, launched earlier this month, has been a huge success so far.

Residents have purchased over $50,000 in gift cards, that can be redeemed at over 275 local businesses.

Executive Director Mark Perrin is thrilled with the response, and said every dollar spent in the tourism industry can generate up to $17 for the local economy.

"We've seen that on some of our programming, just what the gift cards create," said Perrin. "People go out and use these gift cards, and they're not only spending the gift card value, but they're adding money with that. Obviously, if they're travelling throughout the province to these places it's great. It's significant and will really be something that kick starts the economy for 2021."

Perrin said there have been similar programs launched across Canada, but he noted the per capita dollars that have been raised locally make TSL an industry leader.

He said they've been receiving both provincial and national recognition.

Gift cards of $10, $25, and $50 will remain available throughout 2021.

They can be purchased by calling Tourism Sarnia-Lambton at 519-336-3232, or by visiting the office at 1455 Venetian Blvd. in Point Edward.
