The road was shutdown periodically in the spring and summer following heavy rainfall which created significant ponding.

Point Edward CAO Jim Burns said the new drain will be hooked into the internal drainage system on Federal Bridge Corporation (FBCL) property.

He said detours will be in place.

"The road will be fully closed so we're asking people to take a couple of extra minutes and drive around to keep everybody safe including the construction workers and motorists," said Burns. "There are stiff penalties for driving on closed roads so it'd be in peoples' best interest to avoid the area."

Burns said the hotels will be accessible from the south, and access to Venetian Village will be maintained on the north end off of Alexandra Avenue.

He said the $50,000 cost is being shared by the village, County of Lambton, and FBCL.
