Sting launch 50/50, t-shirt campaign to fight COVID

The Sarnia Sting are telling COVID-19 to "puck off".

The hockey club has launched two campaigns.

The Friends of Sarnia Minor Hockey Youth & Education online 50/50 draw will support the Bluewater Health Foundation, while Lambton Elderly Outreach (LEO) will benefit from a t-shirt campaign.

Sting Marketing Director Jake Bourrie said the "Puck COVID" t-shirts are $25.

Bourrie said Laura Domingos, LEO's director of community support, came up with the idea for the shirts.

"Her and her friend came up with the concept, we loved it and we saw it as an opportunity to do some good in the community and we jumped on board -- we're going to take that opportunity every time we can."

The Friends of Sarnia Minor Hockey online 50/50 runs until June 26 at 8 p.m., with the winner to be announced June 27 -- all proceeds go to the Bluewater Health Foundation COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund.

Bourrie said the money raised will be put to good use.

"We just feel like we don't want to sit on the sidelines, we want to help, and we want to help those who are affected the most by it, and it seems like the elderly are the most vulnerable. And then obviously, Bluewater Health and the service that they offer, it's the place to go if you are in need."
