United Way campaign surpasses 2019 target

It was a push right to the end, but the Sarnia-Lambton United Way campaign surpassed its 2019 target.

On the final day of the campaign, December 31, the annual fundraising effort raised $1,904,765.

Campaign Chair Vicky Ducharme said over 3,000 individuals contributed to the 2019 campaign.

"When we did the plea out to the public that we needed funds or our programs would be cut, people were very generous in Sarnia-Lambton," said Ducharme. "We had people come in to donate, some that had never donated before so that was very much appreciated. All the programs will be able to run, so none of the agencies will have their funding cut."

The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton funds 18 agencies providing 36 programs and services to the community.

"The donations that we receive, 30 per cent are for senior programs, 31 per cent are for family programs and 39 per cent are for youth programs in Sarnia-Lambton," said Ducharme.

The 2019 campaign saw the first-ever United Way telethon on YourTV, to help boost funds and educate the public about the organization.
