Two critically injured in London following Sarnia bank robbery

A bank robbery Sunday afternoon in Sarnia resulted in suspects being chased to London where two people were critically injured in a crash.

Cst. John Sottosanti said at about 3:50 p.m., two men wearing hoods and black masks entered the TD Canada Trust on London Road.

"One suspect advised everyone in the bank that a robbery was taking place and to get down on the ground while the other suspect jumped over the counter to retrieve the money," said Sottosanti. "During the robbery, both suspects were carrying what appeared to be handguns. No one was injured during the robbery."

Cst. Sottosanti said the pair fled the scene in a vehicle.

An officer tried unsuccessfully to stop the suspect vehicle travelling south on Modeland Road before it reached Highway 402, where Ontario Provincial Police took over the pursuit.

The Special Investigations Unit said at about 5 p.m. one of the involved police vehicles collided with a taxi at the intersection of Southdale Road East and Verulam Street in London. Two passengers, a nine-year-old girl and a 27-year-old woman, were taken to hospital in critical condition. The taxi driver was also taken to hospital for treatment.

After receiving several tips London police were able to arrest the suspects and seized money and firearms, which were determined to be replica handguns.

Mushin Abdirazak Aden, 23, and Hassan Ali, 21, both from the Mississauga-Etobicoke area, were transported back to Sarnia Sunday evening and were being held for bail hearings on charges of robbery using a firearm, disguise with intent, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
