Combine damaged in Sarnia crash

A combine was damaged Wednesday morning in Sarnia after a vehicle clipped the machine's back wheel.

Sarnia police Cst. John Sottosanti said the combine was travelling westbound on London Line as it attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Brigden Road.

Because the combine was so big, it took up both the passing and turning lanes.

Sottosanti said it was at this time that the driver of a Jeep tried to pass the large machine.

"The vehicle that was behind the combine decided to keep going through, but for whatever reason, the Jeep didn't navigate properly or stop, and it clipped the combine on the side," he said. "So it looks like it hit the tire, but by hitting the tire it damaged the combine significantly. I think it might have even snapped a tierod on it."

Sottosanti said members of Preferred Towing were called to place new tires on the combine.

Preferred also had camera crews there taping for next season's Heavy Rescue 401 series.

Sarnia police were on scene around 9:30 a.m. and directed traffic around the farm equipment for a few hours.

No injuries were reported.
