As the fall harvest continues we're being reminded to watch for slow moving farm vehicles on area roads.
Lambton OPP Constable Chris Doupe said these tractors only travel about 30 to 40 kilometres per hour, so it's important for motorists to slow down, use caution, and be patient.
"Locally one thing we've noticed, depending on the time of year and the weather is their fields might be wet," said Doupe. "If this occurs, they may have to use a portion of the roadway and/or shoulder to load and unload. So, be very aware when you're coming upon them."
Doupe said these vehicles are easily recognizable, and are equipped with extra lights, slow moving vehicle signs, and an orange caution triangle.
He said they may be unable to move onto soft shoulders. Wait for a safe opportunity to pass and leave a wide berth while doing so.
It's also important to maintain your speed once past a farm vehicle because they can't stop as quickly as a car.
Failure to comply by the laws could result in charges under the Highway Traffic Act.
