Noticeable changes are happening at Great Lakes Secondary School.
Demolition of the outer facade near the greenhouse area began this week.
Lambton Kent District School Board Superintendent Brian McKay says during the summer months, demolition inside the Murphy Rd. school was completed, prepping the site for phase two.
"We hope to have all the demolition work completed within the next two weeks," says McKay. "We will then switch over to the awarded contractor for construction and that contractor will take control of the site by the end of September. They will be starting work on both the addition, which is the auditorium, our Indigenous partner space, plus all of the reno and refresh work on the existing building."
The school board received a $10.3-million capital investment from the Ministry of Education toward the $23.4-million project.
Work is expected to be completed by August 2018.
