One of five people accused of attempting to murder three men from Chatham is expected to enter a plea in Chatham court next week.
Terry St. Hill, 20, is currently in custody at a maximum security prison in Penetanguishene, but will appear by video on May 17, 2022 to enter a plea.
St. Hill was arrested in Thunder Bay a year ago on a Canada-wide warrant after being on the run for three months following a shooting on Harvey Street in Chatham on January 26, 2021.
He and another suspect, now 18, who can't be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act because he was 17 years of age at the time of the allegations, were the last of five suspects to be arrested. Another 18-year-old male from Cambridge, whose name is also protected by law because he was a minor at the time of the alleged crime, Rylie Dejonge-Vandusen, 20, of London, and Brianna Gardiner, 19, of Cambridge were found and arrested within days of the shooting. All three are out on bail.
They are all charged with three counts of attempted murder after three men were shot at. Two of the men were wounded and were taken to the hospital for medical attention with non-life-threatening injuries. A third man was also shot at but was not wounded. A dog was shot and killed during the incident.
Police called it a targeted shooting.
During one of the bail hearings in March of 2021, the court heard the dispute started with threatening text messages. In question is who owned the gun, who pulled the trigger, and who was a bystander or spectator. The judge was told the trip to Chatham was planned and one of the youths has relationships with some of the other suspects, but no connection to Chatham-Kent.
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
