Rappelling fundraiser pushed back a year

An exciting fundraiser in Chatham-Kent is being pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The "Over the Edge" rappelling event set to benefit two non-profit organizations -- the Children's Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Chatham-Kent -- has been rescheduled from June 2020 to June 19, 2021.

A media release issued on Wednesday evening states that the Over the Edge Company had rescheduled all events up until the end of June 2020.

The two organizations announced plans to hold the event in March.

The goal was to have residents raise a minimum of $1,000 and they would then get to rappel down the Holiday Inn Express in Chatham.

Although the fundraiser is being pushed back, participants will still be entered into a draw to win a new car as Lally Auto Group, the lead sponsor, will still support the fundraiser in 2021.

In the meantime, the staff at the Children’s Treatment Centre are still working during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the building itself is closed to the public.

Referrals are still being accepted by voicemail, email, and fax at (519) 354-7355. The CTC said staff have been in contact with existing clients and continue to offer support as much as possible. Those looking for therapy services are asked to leave a message at 519-354-0520 ext. 0. Questions can also be emailed to info@ctc-ck.com.

Resources to help families cope during this time can be found on their website.
