Smile Cookie Campaign raises almost $25K for new children's facility

This year's Smile Cookie campaign has raised almost $25,000 towards a new facility for the children's treatment centre in Chatham-Kent.

Tim Hortons all across Canada held their Smile Cookie fundraiser from September 17 to 23 to raise money for local charities.

According to the owner of a Chatham Tim Hortons, Jessica Pritchard, proceeds are up roughly 20 per cent from last year.

"So we've raised almost $25,000 this year for the Children's Treatment Centre," Pritchard said. "We are very excited about that."

According to Mike Grail, chair of the Children's Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent, the money is going right to the Butterfly Building Campaign to create a much needed new facility.

Grail added the centre is very excited because every time they raise money, it gets them one step closer. According to the chair, the new Butterfly Building will allow the centre to take around 1,300 kids off the waiting list.

"In Chatham-Kent, every kid deserves to be there best," Grail said. "We need to be focused, We need to get those kids off the waiting list. This new facility is going to be able to give us the new capacity to be able to have additional services and be able to get those kids in for service and let them be their best."

Pritchard said it was really the employees who made it all happen. According to the franchise owner, they are the ones who really got excited about Cookie Day.

"Upselling it to our guests and they're the ones behind it," Pritchard said. "We as owners, we're always excited about it, but they [the employees] really bring the encouragement and support. They really get the community on-board."

Pritchard said the residents of CK responded really well to Cookie Day as well. The owner took note of just how much pride they take in their community.

"When we ask them to show up they deliver," Pritchard said. "They want to be a part of it and they want to show their support. I really think that the Smile Cookie Campaign is something that really brings a community together."

September's Cookie Day raised a total of $24,650, almost $5,000 more than last year's event.
