Hip Concert In Tecumseh Park Raises Over $17K

The numbers are in and the cheques have been donated.

Last month's live screening of The Tragically Hip concert in Tecumseh Park has raised $17,352.

Organizer Ryan Doyle says the money has been split three ways.

"The Chatham-Kent Hospice received $6,377, as did the Sunnybrook Foundation for the Gord Downie Fund," says Doyle. "The Knights of Columbus, who basically ran the beer tent for us, received $4,598."

Doyle says the amount raised is a little lower than the his goal, which was anywhere from $30,000 to $40,000.

"By the end [we had] about 2,500 people show up, where we were aiming for about 5,000 to 7,500," says Doyle. "Had it not rained I think we would have been very close to our goal."

Despite not raising as much money as initially hoped for, Doyle says he's happy with how everything turned out.

Adding, he hasn't heard any negative comments about the event, which only encourages him to organize something similar in the future.
