Wharf Work Ramps Up To Meet Derby Deadline (GALLERY)

Work was continuing Thursday on the city's new boat ramp at Sarnia Bay, with the annual Bluewater Anglers Salmon Derby starting at 12:01am Friday.

Sarnia Bay Marina operator Dave Brown told BlackburnNews.com before noon Thursday that work was on schedule to be complete by 5pm or 6pm.

"Everything on land has been completed and we're just completing the floating docks, putting them in order, and so far so good," said Brown. "It may be tomorrow morning by the time we open it, but that's when the derby starts. It's fantastic, finally we've seen the light at the end of the tunnel, which is great."

In a news release last week the city said it expected to have the much-delayed project complete in time for the 42nd annual derby.

City hall has also broken out the cost of the new ramp and yet-to-be-paved parking lot at $673,000, about 5% of the total $13.5-million Centennial Park remediation project.
