UPDATE: Alleged car thieves arrested

A man and woman accused of stealing vehicles from used car dealerships in London have been arrested.

London police issued warrants for Matthew Lee Smibert, 36, and Sherry-Lynn Stringer, 38, earlier this week and Sarnia police reportedly arrested them Thursday afternoon.

It's alleged that, between August 13 and September 5, they went to several dealerships in London and test drove vehicles but didn't return them.

According to police, several of the vehicles that were later located were found with stolen licence plates.

Smibert and Stringer, both of no fixed address, are charged with seven counts of theft of a motor vehicle, six counts of possession of property obtained by crime, possession of an identity document, theft under $5,000, and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

Stringer is also charged with an additional count of theft of a motor vehicle. Smibert is also charged with two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.
