Coroner To Examine Death Of Construction Worker

A date has been set for the coroner's inquest into the death of a man who was hit by a vehicle while directing traffic at a road construction site.

Brian Daniel, 55, died July 2, 2014 after being hit by a pick-up truck that was heading west on Hwy. 3 in St. Thomas. The inquest will begin at 10am on Monday, February 5 at the St. Thomas courthouse. It's expected to last four days and hear from eight witnesses.

"The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Daniel's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths," says a statement from the Ministry of Labour.

An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

Daniel was directing drivers around a boom lift used to help construction workers on the Burwell Rd. overpass when he was hit. The driver of the pickup was charged with dangerous driving causing death.
