Influenza Activity Still Modest

It's still a relatively quiet flu season in the London area, but flu activity appears to be picking up a bit of steam.

The Middlesex London Health Unit says there were six lab confirmed cases of influenza last week. While that still is not a surge of flu activity, the new cases nearly double the total number of cases of the respiratory illness seen so far this season.

Prior to last week there were only seven lab confirmed cases of influenza across Middlesex-London.

This flu season seems to be on track to pale in comparison to the last one, when the health unit reported 328 confirmed cases of Influenza A and 43 cases of Influenza B. Of those cases, 155 people were hospitalized and 14 died.

Since September there have been no influenza outbreaks or flu related deaths in our area.
