Chatham-Kent police are trying to track down a suspect after a police officer was dragged 10 ft by a vehicle.
Investigators say the incident started when an officer pulled over a gold Intrepid on Lacroix St. near Grand Ave. E at around 10pm Tuesday night, after receiving a call about an erratic driver in Chatham.
When the officer was approaching the vehicle on foot, police say he recognized the man behind the wheel and identified him as someone who was currently wanted on an outstanding warrant. The man is also suspended from driving.
At this point, police say the officer asked the man to turn off his vehicle, but he didn't comply, so the officer reached into the vehicle to remove the keys from the ignition. That's when the man allegedly sped off, dragging the officer approximately 10 ft before he could free himself from the moving vehicle.
Fortunately, the officer didn't sustain any serious injuries.
Police say after the officer returned to his cruiser and pursued the man, who allegedly hit speeds of 100 km/h on Sandys St. before pulling off into a parking lot and fleeing the scene on foot.
Investigators say they searched the area, but couldn't find the suspect.
