Tigers name new manager

The Detroit Tigers have named A.J. Hinch as their new manager.

"Our fans have high expectations for their baseball team and all of us with the Tigers are confident that today's announcement is a big step towards returning to the on-field success they deserve," said Detroit Tigers Chairman and CEO Christopher Ilitch.

Hinch replaces Ron Gardenhire who retired last month.

He will be the 39th person to take on the role of manager for the Detroit Tigers.

"It's time to start playing winning baseball, and I am confident this organization is positioned to make that happen," said Hinch.

Hinch was formally the manager for the Houston Astros. He was suspended for the 2020 season after Major League Baseball’s investigation into allegations of sign stealing by the Astros.
