Firebirds edge Spitfires 4-3 in OT

The Windsor Spitfires were narrowly defeated by the Flint Firebirds 4-3 on Saturday.

Will Cuylle scored Windsor its first goal. The Spitfires were the only team on the board throughout the first period. The Firebirds finally responded by adding two goals by the end of second. Egor Afanasyev shot another for the Spitfires 8:42 into third, and Connor Corcoran helped the team to edge Flint when he scored a third goal for Windsor.

The Firebirds were able to tie things up moments later to force overtime. Flint scored the game winner 2:52 into OT.

Spitfires goaltender Kari Piiroinen made 36 saves out of 40 shots on net.

Windsor will play at home on Sunday against the Kitchener Rangers. Puck drops at 2:05 p.m.
