Spitfires lose to Spirit 7-6 in overtime

The Windsor Spitfires were defeated by the Saginaw Spirit 7-6 in overtime on Sunday.

Curtis Douglas kicked off the game for the Spitfires with a goal 4:07 into the first period. Camaryn Baber ended the first period with a tie after scoring for the Spirit.

Cole Coskey broke the tie 1:30 into the second period, putting the Spirit in the lead by one. The Spitfire's Egor Afanasyev socred with just one minute left in the second period followed closely by a goal from Saginaw's Cole Perfetti.

The Spitfires scored four consecutive goals shot by Matthew Maggio, Afanasyev, who scored a power-play, Tyle Angle, and Daniel D'Amico. Blade Jenkins, Jake Goldwski, and Damien Giroux scored for the Spirit with a less than a minute left in the frame, forcing the game into overtime.

Reilly Web scored in overtime giving the win to the Spirit.

Kari Piiroinen saved 23 out of 20 shots on net.

The Spitfires face off against the Erie Otters on Friday at the Erie Insurance Arena. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
