Jr. hockey wrap-up - January 6, 2019

Brandon Ireland and Blake Bain scored hat tricks in the Lakeshore Canadiens' 10-4 win over the Blades at Blenheim Sunday night.

Lakeshore is in fourth place in the PJHL Stobbs Division with 46 points. The Blades are in sixth place with 32.

Ireland scored his first goal of the game at 2:44 of the opening frame. Matt Smith and Bain scored in quick succession before the five-minute mark to make it a 3-0 Canadiens lead. Ryan Malott got a goal back for the Blades, but Lakeshore made it a three-goal lead once again with a goal by Ameen Fadel.

Lakeshore extended its lead to 5-1 when Ireland scored his second goal of the contest at 12:36 of the middle period, but Blenheim's Connor Wright scored 20 seconds later. Bain added his second goal of the game for a 6-2 Canadiens advantage after 40 minutes.

Ireland completed his hat trick with a power-play goal at 3:03 of the third period, prompting Blenheim goalie Tyler Letchford to be pulled for backup Kaleb Moore. Smith added his second goal of the night for Lakeshore before Blenheim countered with another Wright lamplighter. Dylan Bradley scored for the Canadiens before Bain completed his own hat trick and made the score 10-3. Chase Henry put one in for the Blades before the time expired.

Erik Morneau faced 20 shots in goal for Lakeshore and stopped 16 of them. Letchford and Moore combined for a total of 32 saves.

Both teams hit the road on Wednesday night for their next contests. Blenheim visits Wallaceburg while Lakeshore is in Wheatley.

Despite being outshot 38-23 in the game, the Amherstburg Integrity Admirals beat the Dresden Kings 2-1 at the Libro Centre.

Amherstburg has 47 points and is in third place in the Stobbs Division, inching closer to the second-place Kings, who have 52 points.

Max Clifford put the Admirals on the board first about halfway through the first period. There was no scoring in the second, but the Kings outshot Amherstburg 11-6, and Dresden's Derek Shaw got an early shower due to a boarding misconduct early in the frame, then a head contact major late into it.

Josh Talerico scored what would become the winning goal for the Addys in the third period, though Nolan VandenBoorn countered for Dresden soon after to avert the shutout.

Ben Larder stopped all but one of the 37 shots he stared down in goal for Amherstburg. Brett Brochu had 21 saves in net for Dresden.

The Kings welcome Blenheim on Friday night. The Admirals take on Wallaceburg Saturday afternoon at Windsor's Lanspeary Park.
