Jr. hockey wrap-up - January 5, 2019

The Amherstburg Integrity Admirals fought off a challenge by the Blenheim Blades and won 5-4 Saturday night at the Libro Centre.

The Admirals move into third place with 45 points in the PJHL Stobbs Division, while Blenheim sits in sixth place with 32 points.

Amherstburg put up a pair of goals in the opening segment. Caleb Paquette opened things up at just over eight minutes in, then Austin Jennings doubled the lead to 2-0.

The Blades got on the board with the only goal of the second frame, off the stick of Dede Cato.

The Addys broke the game open with three straight goals in the third period, but the Blades didn't go quietly, scoring three straight of their own after that. Josh DiCarlo, Amilio Acampora and Reid Stieler scored in order for Amherstburg and a 5-1 lead with two and a half minutes to go in regulation. Blenheim's Cameron Symons scored two goals and Cato put in another one, all within the last 85 seconds of the period, but they could not force overtime.

Jared Ratko got the win in goal for Amherstburg with 30 saves out of 34 shots. Tyler Letchford also had 30 saves for the Blades, but faced 35 shots.

Blenheim hosts Lakeshore Sunday, while the Admirals welcome Dresden.

Lucas Fancy had three points as the Strathroy Rockets beat the visiting London Nationals 4-2.

The Rockets now have 30 points and are in sixth place in the GOJHL Western Conference.

Strathroy put up a pair of goals to start the game off. Fancy lit the lamp first for the Rockets at 8:56, then came a power-play goal from Max Ewart.

Riley MacRae put the Nationals on the board with a power-play goal at 12:19 in the second period, but the Rockets pulled away with back-to-back goals. Emmet Pierce scored at 1:19 of the third with the extra-man advantage, and Zachary Berriault put one in just over two minutes later. James Turner scored for London late in regulation on the power-play, and with goalie Jukka Schotter pulled for the extra attacker, but that was all the scoring they could muster.

Vince Michelizzi took the win for Strathroy with 35 saves out of 37. Schotter had 21 saves for the Nationals.

The Nationals next host St. Thomas on Wednesday night, while the Rockets head to LaSalle.

Nathan Young stopped all 21 shots he faced as the Komoka Kings shut out the St. Marys Lincolns 4-0 on the road.

Komoka now has 26 points and is in eighth place in the Western Conference. St. Marys is last with 22.

The Kings scored twice in the first period. Kurt Watson cracked the scoreboard at 2:42, then Chase Strychaluk followed suit before the intermission.

A power-play goal from the Lincolns' Jacob Rochford cut the Komoka lead in half in the middle stanza. Joe Capirchio added insurance with the lone third-period score.

Justin Richer had 29 stops between the pipes for the Lincolns.

The Kings travel to Chatham Sunday night, while St. Marys hosts Leamington on Friday.
