Jr. hockey wrap-up – December 15, 2018

Michael Vieira almost had a natural hat trick with two goals in the first period as the 73's beat Mooretown 5-3 Saturday night in Jr. C hockey.

Vieira added an assist for three points to lead the way along with Josh Pope-Ferguson who lit the lamp and added two apples of his own.

Connor Meyerink had 30 saves for the 73's, but didn't see much action in the third, only needing to stop five shots.

Jon Sanderson scored the game-winner for the Legionnaires as Sarnia beat Leamington 3-1 at home in Jr. B hockey action.

Sanderson assisted on William Redick's first-period goal, while Alec DeKoning had two assists of his own.

Jakob Knowles stopped 33 of 34 shots for the win.

Andrews, Michael had the lone goal for Leamington in the second period.

Elsewhere in the GOJHL, Chatham didn't put up much of a fight on the road in Kamoka, losing 4-1.

The Kings led 3-0 after two periods and while Maddux Rychel was able to cut the lead to two halfway through the third, Kurt Watson iced the game with an empty-netter for Kamoka with just over a minute left in the game.

Tristan Lewis took the loss in net for Chatham, stopping 26 of 29 shots.

The Maroons are back in action Sunday afternoon at home against the St. Marys Lincolns. Puck drop is at 4 p.m and Hometown Hockey hosts Ron MacLean and Tara Slone will be in attendance.
