Jr. hockey wrap-up - December 2, 2018

An early lead by the LaSalle Vipers helped them get past the first-place London Nationals.

The Vipers scored two goals in the first period on their way to a 3-2 win over London Sunday afternoon at the Vollmer Complex. With the Nationals still leading the GOJHL Western Conference with 39 points, the Vipers are now in sixth with 24 points.

The first period goals came off the sticks of Aaron Shaw at 13:46, then Spencer Paradis less than three minutes later.

There was no scoring in the second period, and London outshot LaSalle 7-6 in that frame. The Nationals got on the board at 4:54 of the third period with a goal by Riley MacRae, though LaSalle got that goal back soon after when Zane Dalpe found the net. The Nationals narrowed the lead with a Cohen Kiteley goal, but they were unable to tie things up.

Will Tragge collected 27 saves in goal for the Vipers. Zachary Springer knocked away 16 shots for the Nationals.

LaSalle hosts Sarnia on Wednesday night. The Nationals travel to Komoka on Saturday.

Keegan MacVoy scored a power-play goal in overtime as the Blenheim Blades beat the Mooretown Flags 2-1 at Blenheim.

The Blades have 20 points and are in seventh place in the PJHL Stobbs Division. Mooretown is tied with Amherstburg for fourth place with 31 points.

The game was a scoreless tie until there were 31 seconds left in the first period, when Keir Cumming scored to put the Blades up 1-0. There was no scoring in the second period, and each team had 11 shots on goal.

Mooretown finally tied the game and forced overtime in the third period with a Cameron Rannie goal. MacVoy's game-winner came at 1:32 into overtime.

Chris DeWulf stopped 36 shots out of 37 in the win for Blenheim. Jake Wilkins had 29 saves in net for the Flags.

The Blades head to Wheatley on Wednesday night while Mooretown hosts these same Blades on Saturday night.

Ty Moss scored two goals as the Amherstburg Integrity Admirals beat the Lakeshore Canadiens 4-1 at the Libro Centre.

The Admirals are in fourth place in the Stobbs Division with 31 points, just one behind the third-place Canadiens.

There was no scoring in the first period, and the Canadiens outshot the Addys 9-6. The Admirals came out in the second period with back-to-back goals. Kyle Meloche opened things up at 15:37, then Moss followed suit with his first goal of the evening.

Lakeshore scored their only goal of the game at 3:12 in the third period, off of Andrew Thoms' stick. Amherstburg countered with two more goals, Moss' second of the game, then Broden Meloche late in regulation.

Ben Larder took the win in goal for the Admirals with 30 saves. Erik Morneau had 24 saves in net for Lakeshore.

The Canadiens travel to Essex on Tuesday night, while on Wednesday, the Addys head to Wallaceburg.
