Jr. hockey wrap-up - November 18, 2018

Cory Burns scored back-to-back goals in the Amherstburg Integrity Admirals 3-1 win over the Mooretown Flags Sunday night at the Libro Centre.

Both teams are tied for fourth place with 26 points each in the PJHL Stobbs Division leaderboard.

Burns put the Admirals up first with a lamplighter at 8:02 of the first stanza. Amherstburg outshot the Flags 12-5 in the first 20 minutes. He struck again with the only goal of the second period as well, this time on the power-play with a minute and 41 seconds left in the frame.

The Flags cut the Amherstburg lead in half when Cameron Rombouts scored on the power play at 2:05 into the third period, but the Addys responded when Kyle Meloche scored the insurance goal short-handed.

Ben Larder had 19 saves out of 20 tries between the pipes for the Admirals. Adam Mino stopped 27 shots in goal for Mooretown.

Mooretown travels to Wallaceburg on Wednesday night to face the Lakers. Amherstburg heads to Petrolia on Thursday.

The Blenheim Blades used the power play to come back and beat the Petrolia Flyers 5-4 at Blenheim Memorial Arena.

The Blades are in seventh place in the Stobbs with 18 points. The Flyers have ten points and are in eighth.

Lucas Ross put the Flyers up first with a goal at 8:29 in the first period, though the Blades tied the game over a minute later on a Colton Shoemaker goal. Petrolia extended its lead with back-to-back goals over the next five minutes, from Mark McNally and Cole Harris. Dede Cato's power play goal brought Blenheim to within one at the end of the first segment.

Both teams exchanged a goal apiece in the second frame. Drew Marlatt tied the game for the Blades at 29 seconds in, then Jack Hackett helped Petrolia regain a one-goal lead by the second intermission.

Blenheim's power-play goals in the third period ended up deciding the game, and were scored 45 seconds apart. Drew Marlatt scored the equalizer at 3:15, then Cameron Symons had what would become the game-winner.

Chris DeWulf had 38 saves in net for the Blades, while Chaska Thiel saved 28 pucks for the Flyers.

Blenheim hits the ice again on Saturday night, hosting the Dresden Kings.

The London Nationals kept punching at the net, resulting in a 2-1 win over the St. Thomas Stars at the Joe Thornton Recreation Centre.

London is in first place in the GOJHL Western Conference with 35 points. St. Thomas has 23 points and remains in fourth place.

The Nationals opened the scoring at 12:10 in the opening frame with a goal by Bryce Kilbourne. The Stars tied the game at one-all when Nicolas Grandy scored about two-and-a-half minutes later.

Riley MacRae broke the tie for London late in the second period, during which the Nationals outshot the Stars 18-4. There was no scoring in the third period, and London dominated in shots again, 16-7.

Zachary Springer stopped all but one of the 24 shots he faced in goal for London. Anthony Hurtubise had 41 saves out of 43 attempts for St. Thomas.

The Nationals host Strathroy on Wednesday night. The Stars host London again on Friday night.

The Sarnia Legionnaires scored two goals in the third frame to beat the St. Marys Lincolns 2-1 at the Pyramid Centre.

The Legionnaires are in fifth place with 20 points in the Stobbs, while the Lincolns have 15 points and are in eighth place.

There was no scoring in the first period, and each team had two power-play chances each. Sarnia's penalties were each committed by Brendan Kennette. Each side had 11 shots on goal.

Jake Weston broke the stalemate for St. Marys with the lone second period goal. In the third, Jon Sanderson evened things up for Sarnia at 47 seconds into the segment. Jake Vince scored the game-winner precisely two minutes later.

Nolan DeKoning and Jakob Knowles combined for 27 saves for the Legionnaires, with DeKoning getting the win. Kyle Curtin stopped 29 shots in net for St. Marys.

Sarnia hosts Chatham on Thursday night, while the Lincolns welcomes LaSalle Friday.
