Jr. hockey wrap-up - October 21, 2018

Brock Perry scored back-to-back goals as the Mooretown Flags beat the 73s 3-1 in Essex Sunday afternoon.

The 73s remain tied for second place in the PJHL Stobbs Division with Lakeshore, having 18 points apiece. The Flags are in fourth place with 15 points.

Perry was responsible for Mooretown's two goals in the first period. The first one came at 3:30 on the power play. He then doubled the Flags' lead with another goal at 14:15. Essex cut the lead in half 61 seconds later when William Stadder put the puck in.

There was no scoring in the second period. The 73s out-shot the Flags 15-8 and each team had a power play opportunity. Hayden MacDonald scored the game-winner for Mooretown at 1:04 in the third.

Jake Wilkins missed only one of the 37 shots he faced in goal for the Flags. Connor Meyerink had 28 saves for Essex.

The 73s host the Blenheim Blades Tuesday night, while the Flags travel to Wheatley Wednesday.

A fast start was enough to give the Amherstburg Integrity Admirals a 6-1 win over the Petrolia Flyers at the Libro Centre.

The Admirals now have 15 points on the season and are tied with Mooretown for fourth place in the Stobbs Division. Petrolia remains in eighth place with four points.

Max Clifford scored an unassisted goal at 7:54 of the opening frame to put the Addys up first. Cory Burns doubled the lead to 2-0 with 24 seconds left before the first intermission.

Bryce McGregor extended the lead for Amherstburg at 27 seconds into the second period. Brett Smith's goal later in the period made it 4-0 Admirals at the end of the first 40 minutes.

Josh Talerico made the score 5-0 at 12:29 in the third period. The Flyers avoided the shutout when Eric Marsh put the puck in about three minutes after, but Amherstburg got that goal back thanks to Caleb Paquette.

Ben Larder had 27 stops out of 28 attempts in net for the Admirals. Josh Loranger stopped 29 shots in goal for Petrolia.

Petrolia travels to Wallaceburg on Wednesday night, while Amherstburg visits Blenheim on Thursday.

Chris DeWulf stopped all 26 shots he faced and Dede Cato scored twice as the Blenheim Blades beat the Wallaceburg Lakers at home 6-0.

Blenheim now has nine points in the Stobbs but remains in seventh place. The Lakers are in last, still with a solitary point.

The Blades scored two goals in the first period. Steven Funk got things started at 5:16, and Cato followed suit on the power play for his first goal of the evening.

Blenheim added an additional pair of goals in the middle stanza. Cam Wheeler made the score 3-0, then Sebastian Stubberfield pushed to a four-goal lead.

It was another deuce for the Blades in the third period, when Malcolm Campbell made it a 5-0 game, then Cato connected a few seconds later for his second score of the contest.

Travis Moore had 39 shots come at him in goal for Wallaceburg. He stopped 33 of them.

Tanner Hertel scored twice as the St. Marys Lincolns beat the St. Thomas Stars 6-3 at the Pyramid Centre.

The Lincolns now move into a tie with the Stars for sixth place. Each has 12 points.

The Stars put two quick goals up within the first three minutes of the contest. Jake Robinson scored unassisted at 27 seconds in, then Cal Horvat scored on the power play. Down 2-0, the Lincolns came right back with two goals of their own before the first interval. Justin McIntyre's goal cut the St. Thomas lead in half, then a lamplighter from Brett Whitehead to tie it up at two-all.

The Lincolns pulled in front with two goals in the second period. Hertel put St. Marys in the lead with a goal at 10:27, then Joe Mazur scored about three minutes later on the power play.

St. Marys continued its offensive dominance with back-to-back goals in the third period. Josh Martin and Hertel both scored power play goals in order. St. Thomas' Brayden Smith managed to give his team another goal before the end of regulation.

Kyle Curtin got the win in goal for the Lincolns with 24 saves. Kevin Linker turned aside 16 shots for St. Thomas.

The Stars head to LaSalle on Wednesday night, while St. Thomas hosts Strathroy on Friday.
