Spits Take Three in Under-18 Draft

The Windsor Spitfires continue to bolster their arsenal as the offseason gets underway.

The Spits took three players in the second annual OHL Under-18 Priority Selection draft on Wednesday night. This is a separate draft from the OHL Priority Selection, which was held last weekend.

Their first-round pick, tenth overall, is goaltender Eli Shiller of Toronto. The 16-year-old spent last season with the Vaughan Kings Midget AAA squad. He also participated in the 2017 OHL Cup, representing the Toronto Titans, posting a .905 save percentage and a 3.00 goals against average.

Left-winger Reid Russert, 16, was drafted by Windsor with their 30th overall pick. The Kanata, Ont. native played in 36 games last year with the Smiths Falls Bears U-18 team, scoring 21 goals for 48 points. He spent the previous season with the Mississauga Rebels Minor Midgets, scoring 51 points, plus four goals in the 2017 OHL Cup.

Arthur Wang was drafted with the 47th overall choice. The 16-year-old defenceman was born in Aurora, Ont. but he represented Australia in the World U-18 Division 2-A league. During the 2017-18 season, he scored a goal for five points and notched 24 penalty minutes for the Richmond Hill Coyotes Minor Midget AAA.
