Jr. Hockey Wrap-Up - February 17, 2018

The Mooretown Flags scored four straight goals to stay alive in the Stobbs Division playoffs.

The Flags beat the Integrity Amherstburg Admirals 5-2 at home in game 6 of their quarterfinal series. With the series tied at 3-3, the deciding Game 7 is Sunday night.

Mooretown got on the board first with a power play goal from Josh Vale at 4:43 in the first period. Bryce McGregor evened the score in the frame for Amherstburg before the intermission.

Broden Meloche briefly gave the Addys a 2-1 lead when he scored at 2:28 in the second period. The Flags' Kyle Smith then scored twice, the second goal on the power play to regain the lead for Mooretown 3-2 after two periods.

The Flags added two more goals in the third period when Nolan Riley and Brent Blais scored.

Jake Wilkins had 41 saves for Mooretown. Ben Larder stopped 40 shots in net for Amherstburg.

The winner of Sunday night's game advances and will play the top-seeded Lakeshore Canadiens in the division semifinals.

Cameron Hough scored twice in the second period as the Sarnia Legionnaires shut out the Leamington Flyers 3-0 at Sarnia Arena.

The Legionnaires gain two points to an even 60, tightening the GOJHL Western Conference standings though remaining in fourth place.

The first goal for the Legionnaires didn't come until late in the first frame. Jon Sanderson scored on the power play with just 55 seconds left in the period.

Hough made the game 2-0 at 54 seconds into the stanza, then extended the lead about halfway through the period.

There was no further scoring in the contest but each team had a failed power play opportunity.

Will Barber stopped all 32 shots he faced in goal for the Legionnaires. Noah Hedrick had 39 saves for Leamington.

Both teams are back in action Thursday night. The Legionnaries host the Chatham Maroons while the Flyers welcome the St. Thomas Stars.

Thomas McLatchie scored two goals as the St. Thomas Stars beat the Kings in Komoka 3-2.

The Stars are in fifth place in the Western Conference with 58 points, keeping pace with the Sarnia Legionnaires.

Komoka got its goal early when Wes Dobbin found the net at 7:36. Kevin Hu tied the game for St. Thomas a few minutes later with an unassisted short-handed goal.

McLatchie accounted for all the scoring in the second period when he scored back-to-back goals and extended the St. Thomas lead to 3-1 after 40 minutes of play.

The Kings pulled within one in the third frame on a Will Ryan goal, 37 seconds before the end of regulation.

Anthony Hurtubise stopped 24 shots in goal for the Stars. Reagan Gies faced only 19 shots for Komoka and turned away 16.

Both teams next play matinees on Family Day Monday. Komoka hosts the Strathroy Rockets while the Stars visit the London Nationals.

Cohen Kiteley had two goals for the London Nationals in their 4-1 win over the Rockets in Strathroy.

The Nationals regain sole possession of the Western Conference lead with 69 points. The Rockets stay put with 27 points in a three-way battle with Komoka and St. Marys for the final two playoff spots.

Matt Granger's goal at 11:16 in the first period gave the Nationals a 1-0 lead.

The Rockets tied the game four minutes into the second period when Matthew Stevens lit the lamp. London regained the lead later in the frame on a Carson Brookshaw goal.

Kiteley scored his goals back-to-back. The first was at 13:58 in the second period, the second an empty-netter late in the third.

Zachary Springer stopped all but one of Strathroy's 19 shots on goal for the Nationals. Vincent Michelizzi had 39 saves for the Rockets.
