Spitfires Downed By Firebirds 4-2

A tendency to fall behind early continues to cost the Windsor Spitfires.

The Flint Firebirds scored four unanswered goals Sunday afternoon and stuffed another attempted comeback by the Spits to beat Windsor 4-2 in Flint.

Windsor is in fourth place in the OHL West Division with 50 points. The Firebirds are a distant last in the division with just 30.

Jacob Collins started it off for Flint with a goal late in the first period. C.J. Clarke doubled the Firebirds' lead with the only goal in the second period.

Flint put the game out of reach with back-to-back goals in the third period, off the sticks of Jack Wismer and Connor Roberts. Windsor finally averted a shutout at 6:29 in the frame with Curtis Douglas' 15th goal of the season. Connor Corcoran was able to add another goal for the Spitfires, but the effort ended there.

Michael DiPietro struggled again, but did save 33 shots out of 37. Luke Cavallin had 29 stops for Flint.

The Spitfires return to the WFCU Centre Thursday night, when they host the Sarnia Sting.
