Jr. Hockey Wrap-Up - October 14, 2017

Spencer Allen scored a goal and two assists as the Strathroy Rockets beat the LaSalle Vipers 4-1 at home Saturday night.

Zack Weir took the win in goal for the Rockets, stopping all but one of 32 LaSalle shots.

Emmet Pierce scored on the power play at 14:14 in the first period to put Strathroy up 1-0. The Rockets added two goals in the middle frame from Tristan Sedlak and Allen.

The Vipers cracked the scoreboard late in the third period on a goal by Tyler Russell. T.J. Harris helped Strathroy regain a three-goal edge on an empty-netter to seal the victory.

The Rockets take on the Maroons at Chatham Memorial Arena Sunday night. The Vipers host Strathroy themselves on Wednesday.

Nolan Riley scored the overtime winner in the Mooretown Flags 5-4 victory over the Blenheim Blades at Mooretown Rink.

Blenheim scored first with an unassisted goal from Christian Moccia in the first period. The Flags evened the score at 2:26 in the second period on Ryan Lyle's first goal of the night, also unassisted. The Blades regained the lead almost two and a half minutes later with a Carter Wright score. Mooretown picked up two more goals before the second intermission, a power -play score that was Lyle's second goal of the contest followed by a lamplighter from Matt Sawatzky.

Trailing 3-2 at the start of the third, Blenheim tied the game again at 6:49 on a power-play goal by Drew Marlatt. Both teams exchanged goals for the rest of the period, from the Flags' Daniel Wellington and Blenheim's Lucas Fancy.

Riley's overtime winner came at 43 seconds into the extra stanza.

Jake Wilkins had 34 saves in goal for Mooretown while Eric Stewardson stopped 43 shots for Blenheim.

The Blades host Lakeshore Sunday night while Mooretown travels to Petrolia Thursday.

Max Vinogradov scored a hat trick in the London Nationals 6-1 road win against the Komoka Kings.

It was a wild one in Komoka as 32 penalty minutes were issued in the first period alone. London's Mathew Shuckett and Komoka's Matt Mellick each received a game misconduct for checking from behind. ten-minute misconducts were also issued to the Nationals' goalie David Ovsjannikov for a warm-up violation and to Isaiah Payne for head contact.

There was no scoring in that first period but London's Brenden Trottier got things started with a goal at 1:52 in the second period. Vinogradov's first goal of the game made the score 2-0 Nationals after two periods.

Komoka cut the London lead in half early in the third period with a power play goal from Joel Mazzilli, but after that it was all London. Vinogradov scored two more goals to complete his hat trick. Mitchell Webb and Ben Derrough also scored for the Nationals.

Ovsjannikov shook off the misconduct and stopped 25 out of 26 shots in goal for London. Avery Hartwick took the loss for Komoka and turned aside 38 shots.

London hosts Leamington on Wednesday night while Komoka welcomes the Flyers on October 21.
