Masse, Team Canada Takes Bronze in FINA Mixed Medley

Canada collects another medal at the FINA World Championships.

The mixed medley team of Penny Oleksiak, Richard Funk, Yuri Kisil, and Windsor's own Kylie Masse took the bronze medal in the 4X100 relay event Wednesday at the championships in Budapest, Hungary.

The Canadians posted a time of 3:41.25 in the event, a new Canadian record which shattered the old one by about three minutes. The United States won the gold medal with a time of 3:38.56 and Australia took the silver at 3:41.21.

Masse, coming off a world-record performance in Tuesday's women's 50m backstroke, says she enjoyed adding the mixed medley event to her repertoire.

"It was such an incredible experience. That mixed relay is something I’ve never done before and isn’t offered at a lot of meets,” says Masse in a statement. “To be able to do it here at world championships was so much fun. To compete for other people as well makes it even better and is almost more motivating. You get more excited and there’s more energy so it was a really fun experience.”

It was Masse's second medal of these championships. She had the lead off leg of the medley with the backstroke and posted a time of 58:22 for her leg.

She will participate in qualifying heats on Thursday for the women's 200m backstroke. The FINA World Championships run through Sunday in Budapest.
