Spitfires Use Import Draft for Two Russian Players

The Windsor Spitfires are bringing two Russian players into the fold.

The Memorial Cup champions added two players during the 26th annual CHL Import Draft on Wednesday, a centre and a defenceman.

In the first round of the two-round draft, the Spits chose 18-year-old centre Kirill Kozhevnikov as the 46th pick overall. The left-shooting native of Yugra, Russia played this past season with Khanty Manasiysk of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He scored 10 goals for 26 points over 46 games with 71 penalty minutes.

Windsor then drafted Lev Starikov in the second round, the 106th overall pick. Starikov played this past season with Tolpar Ufa of the Russian Junior Hockey League. The 16-year-old Starikov played 39 games and scored ten points, including two goals. He stands six-foot-six and 187 pounds.
