Jr. Hockey Wrap Up - January 7, 2017

James Brooks had three assists in the Lakeshore Canadiens' 4-1 win over the Wheatley Omstead Sharks Saturday night at Atlas Tube Centre.

The Canadiens went through the first period with two unanswered goals.  J.J. Percy got the first one on the power play at 5:30 in the opening period.  Nick Tavolieri-Essex doubled the Lakeshore lead with a goal of his own at 16:14 in the period.  Lakeshore picked things up in the second period with Joe Binder scoring at 8:18, giving the Canadiens a 3-0 lead by the second intermission.

For good measure, Lakeshore added a fourth goal in the third period as Jake Nimmo took a pass from Brooks and put it in the net at 9:49.  The Sharks got on the board less than two minutes later with a power play goal from Anthony Ciampa, with Kyle Gagnon on the assist.  The goal deprived Lakeshore goalie Mitch Topliffe of the shutout, though he did stop the other 23 shots he faced.  Wheatley's Erik Morneau had 31 saves in net in the losing effort.

The Canadiens travel to Petrolia Thursday while the Sharks return home Monday and host the Blenheim Blades.

Brett Fisher got a goal and an assist as the Lambton Shores Predators beat the Strathroy Rockets 3-2 in double overtime at West Middlesex Memorial Arena.

The last place Predators now have 15 points while the Rockets are tied for sixth in the PJHL Stobbs Division with 27 points.

The Predators' Derrick Treppa earned himself a misconduct for head contact in the first period.  As a result, Strathroy's Cody Schneider scored on the power play to put the Rockets up 1-0.

Lambton Shores got two goals in the second period.  On the first, Treppa redeemed himself with an assist on Fisher's goal at 16:16 in the frame.  The Predators took the lead one minute and eight seconds later on a Cale Markham goal.

The third period passed almost uneventfully until Max Ewart tied the game up for Strathroy with just 17 seconds left in regulation.  The game remained knotted until 1:35 in the second overtime when Kyle Fisher scored the winner for Lambton Shores.

The Predators host the Sarnia Legionnaires next Saturday night while Strathroy travels to LaSalle Wednesday night to take on the Vipers.
