Nationals Close Gap on Vipers 5-1

Brandon Glover scored a goal and chipped in two assists as the London Nationals beat the LaSalle Vipers Saturday afternoon 5-1 at Western Fair Community Centre.

With the win, the Nationals gain two points on the Vipers in the GOJHL Western Conference standings with 47 points.

London got things going early in the game, with the first goal coming off the stick of Austin Kemp at 1:41 into the opening period.  The Vipers' Daniel Beaudoin would knot things up just after seven minutes into the period for LaSalle's only goal of the afternoon.  The Nationals would have a 2-1 lead at the first intermission thanks to a goal from Richard Whittaker.

The Nationals got an insurance goal with 13 seconds left in the second period, on the power play from Max Vinogradov.  Glover would get his goal in the third period to make the score 4-1 London, but soon after that, tension mounted as Whittaker and LaSalle's Ameen Fadel would receive misconducts for fighting.  London's Ethan Nother would slip an empty-netter in to seal the victory just before the end of regulation.

The Vipers travel to Chatham Sunday afternoon to take on the Maroons.  The Nationals, however, are off for the holidays with their next game on January 4 against Lambton Shores.
