Spitfires Dump the Colts 6-3

Gabriel Vilardi scored once and added two assists as the Windsor Spitfires doubled up the Barrie Colts Sunday afternoon 6-3 at the WFCU Centre.

The Spitfires improve to 12-4 on the season with 24 points in the OHL West Division, tied in the division lead with the Sarnia Sting.

Windsor was in control right from the initial puck drop, with three goals scored in the first period alone.  Vilardi's first assist led to the first goal at 6:09 by Cristiano DiGiacinto.  Aaron Luchuk put the Spits up at 2-0 after the 14-minute mark with his ninth goal of the season.  Logan Brown completed the first period trifecta for Windsor with 59 seconds left, with Vilardi's second assist coming before that score.

The scoring continued for the Spits in the second period with their fourth unanswered goal, coming off the stick of Sean Day.  Barrie finally got itself on the board with Kirill Nizhnikov at 7:22 in the third period.  Vilardi's goal would give Windsor a four-goal lead again just 53 seconds afterwards.  Julius Nattinen scored his first goal of the season short-handed at 11:49 in the third period to give the Spitfires a 6-1 lead.  Barrie would score twice in the last five minutes of regulation on goals from Giordano Finoro and Matt Brassard.  Kade Landry assisted on both.

The Spits hit the road for the first time in over two weeks when they face the Firebirds in Flint on Saturday afternoon.  They return home next Sunday for a matinee against the Peterborough Petes.
